Our client is actively expanding their traffic and transportation group by both recruitment and in-house training of staff. Their expansion requires a knowledgeable and experienced candidate to assist at a senior level with providing traffic / transportation advice and design solutions to clients. In particular, it is hoped that the post-holder will be able to strengthen their expertise in offering early-stage advice concerning the feasibility of developments, preparation of reports for planning applications and design and implementation of schemes.
The traffic and transportation group uses a number of computer models including Vissim and Transyt. While the ability to undertake the modelling itself is not essential, an understanding of modelling and the ability to ensure sensible input and to interpret the output for non-specialists is essential.
After a short period of induction, the post-holder will have the ability and self-confidence to represent the company in dealings with existing and prospective clients, with fellow design professionals and with officers of highways and other agencies. Such dealings may be in person at meetings, over the telephone, by email or formally in writing. The company maintains high standards of professionalism and is keen that the quality of letter writing and reports reflects this.
Other responsibilities will include: guidance and supervision of technical staff working within the group; assistance in the continual development of good practice within the group; where appropriate, the promotion of the company and its business.
The post-holder will work within the civil engineering department and will report to the associate responsible for the traffic and transportation group; thence to the projects director who leads the civil engineering department and ultimately to the board director.
Our client are consulting civil and structural engineers whose main activities include identifying and solving infrastructure constraints on development and the organisation, design and supervision of building and construction works. The company has been established in Cambridge since 1979 and has about 80 staff, 50 of whom are in the Cambridge office.
