You should have a degree followed by industrial/commercial experience in product or component design.
It is essential you have experience of designing in areas such as sheet metal. Also useful would be knowledge of plastic injection moulding, welded fabrications, precision machined components and aluminium extrusion.
You must have at least five years hands-on 3D CAD experience covering modelling, detailing and assembly drawings - ideally Autodesk Inventor or similar (Mechanical Desktop, Pro-E etc.).
Experience of FEA tools would be advantageous(ideally Cosmos DesignStar), it would be useful if you also had exposure of FMEA, DFMA & VAVE.
A background in high-speed pneumatics would be advantageous.
